Dear Queer,

My sister’s best friend is an out, flamboyantly gay man and a staunch Republican. Whenever politics comes up, I get so angry and frustrated. I want to scream that he wouldn’t be enjoying the lifestyle he does if it wasn’t for progressive liberals fighting for his rights like my sister and me. Do I confront him or work on my tolerance, even for dumbasses like him? (lol kidding/not kidding). BTW my sister and I are both straight if that even matters.

Yikes. This is a tough one. Dealing with family friends is tricky terrain. Is your energy best spent quarreling with a person who has opposite beliefs to you, or would it better serve you to direct that frustration into something productive?
