Hey Dear Queer,
Heterosexual, Christian church kid here! I’m starting a new job that is very LGBTQ+ friendly and I’m a little nervous about fitting in given the history between the two groups. How can I bridge the two communities in the workplace to remove the stereotypical “them vs. us”?

Hi Church Kid,
First, I want to thank you very much for your genuine Christ-like inquiry. I am reminded of a person I worked with a decade ago. She was a home health aide assigned to me during post-surgery recovery. It was an inherently intimate job since my home was her workplace. She knew which credit card in my wallet to use for groceries, which one was my underwear drawer, and the medications I took. Heck, I even gave her a key to my house in case of an emergency. I knew at the end of her first shift she was Christian because she mentioned going to worship later that day. I’ll admit, I was scared to come out to her, but I knew it had to be done.
